There is a cultural blend as many of the islands belonged to the former British and Spanish colonies, some islands still belong to the French and Americans.

Caribbean food is all about sharing; it is famous for curries and stews. The food is delicious and is often made with coconut milk and peppers for that extra kick. Caribbean food is colourful as it has African, Indian and more traditional European influences. ‘Jerk’ or ‘jerking’ refers to a cooking method that is popular and involves rich aromatic spices. Chicken is the most popular meat, but fish is of course a staple dish with these being islands and fish in abundance in the region.

Handicrafts are very popular and often include colourful jewellery. Markets also provide high quality wallets and purses. Rum is a famous local drink and is reasonably priced.
