Palma Cruise Destination

La Palma is the most north-westerly of the Canary Islands, famous for its beautiful Spanish-style colonial mansions with their hangings of bright bougainvillea and one of the largest volcanic craters in the world, the Caldera de Taburiente which measures nearly eighteen miles across and is almost half a mile deep – the surrounding terrain is so rich in plants and animals that it’s been designated a National Park – visit it if you can. Although it was claimed by the Spanish in 1493, fossils and ancient tools indicate that La Palma was inhabited in pre-historic times and the culture is an interesting blend of Catholic European and North African, making for vibrant music, food and craft items.
